I once heard a preacher (though I cannot remember who) describe the verse in Revelation where it says "God will wipe away the tears from every weeping eye." He said that we will not be weeping because of our hurts, because of our pains, because of our wounds, traumas, or injuries. We will be weeping for what 'could have been, should have been, could have used, could have done, could have affected,' all those things we had the ability to transform, yet did not do."

I think it is one thing to imagine God wiping our eyes due to hurts and pains.

I think it is entirely another to imagine God wiping our eyes because of our own unfaithfulness concerning what He planted in us to do.

Great point. And much can be said for the local church that understands that undervaluing mentality and then strategically moves to establish and reinforce the value of "community." Intimate community not only provides the context for individual growth (discipleship) but is one of the great "intangibles" for corporate effectiveness. The "plugged-in" person becomes your informal seed carrier of vision.

Tom, the S&H Green Stamps metaphor connects with me. I wonder what redemption metaphors we could glean from the difference between one lone stamp versus a complete filled book of stamps?

It is so sad that so many people, and even well-meaning Christian people, undervalue the purpose and power of being intimately engaged in the Church.
